Rocks and Things

Well, I am still puttering around and watching my Rock Tumblers spin and grind !  Weather is Rain and Cold but it is up in the 40's !

We have Robins back up North from their winter vacation.  We have 2 of them running around looking for worms !

Snow is finally making progress in Leaving but we will be getting some more "Sugaring Snow" !

.

I did out first "Cook-Out".  I fired up the Gas Grill and opened the back doors on the Garage and cooked us a nice Pork Steak from Eddie Bolivers Meat Market !

.

.

The slurry is hard on the hands so I got some nice yellow  Latex Gloves to wear when removing the rocks from the tumblers.

.

I pulled 1 of the Tumblers and this is what the Grit, Soap and Stones look like from grinding. 

.

The Mayonnaise Jar has the used grit and water and some of the rocks are in the strainer on the left all rinsed, the slurry is dumped outside.

.

.

These rocks are now going into the Polish stage, they will tumble for 5 days in Polish, water and a teaspoon of Liquid Soap.  Then removed and checked, and then the good quality and pretty ones go back in and get tumbled with small cut up pieces of leather and plastic beads to buff them up !

Finishing Winter

 Well, we are hopefully finishing winter,  we still have a lot of Snow,  right now it is 39 degrees, it's Friday Nite, we are sitting home as usual and on computers, we went to a Wake for My Honeys Uncle who passed away, he was one of the original 17 family members and the family is slowly losing members  ! There is now only 8 living of the 17.

I am still playing with my Rocks, I have a good set up in the Basement .

These are the 2 Tumblers,  both are grinding and shaping rocks !

I am unloading the big tumbler, cleaning the grinding Grit off the rocks and checking them !

.

.

These are now cleaned, now they go back in the Tumbler and I use a finer Grinding Grit and will let these tumble for 5 days and then check them to see if they can be Polished !

.

The Mayonnaise Jar on the right holds the used Grit I used, you cannot pour it down the inside drains as it hardens back up like cement and will plug the plumbing !

We are seeing more and more Snow and the sap is running so there is going to be a good year for Maple Syrup !

Time to go get a bowl of Ice Cream for us and watch some TV !

Waiting for Spring

Well, we have had all kinds of weather, Snow, Warm Sunny Days, Rain, and Wind, some Hail !!  Not much going on, Health wise is different story,  I popped my left socket out on my leg and man does it hurt,  I have been using 5% Lidocaine Patchs and Lidocaine Rub on it and also I have a butt, back and neck message pad that also has heat I use and am sitting on it now !

It is called a SNAILLAX sl-522s and does it ever make my upper an lower back and hip feel better and it shuts off by itself after 20 minutes !

.

.

My Honey outside, this is some of the scarce grass areas we have, people are spotting Robins but none around here as too much snow !

.

.

We are Located almost on the end of where it reads Watertown.

.

.

Outside and the Picnic Table lacks snow but we are supposed to get some serious storms rolling in about 5PM,  It's 2:15 now and 41 degrees !

.

.

I am sitting here waiting for FEDEX to deliver my new LORTONE Rock Tumbler and some more Grinding Grit ! I ordered it when the other Tumbler started not working right !

Old Hobby !

.When I was years younger I was a Rock Hound, I acquired this as I had worked in 2 large Mines after high School,, St. Josephs Lead Company in my Home Town, *(Noe Closed) and for Gouverneur Talc, *(Reopened).  

I had a used cylinder Rock tumbler, at Work if I found a rock or stone that looked interesting I put it in my lunch pail !    My Mining days were short as I did not like the total darkness or quiet or walking down a shaft and having slabs of rock fall off the overheads behind me !  

My Sister in Law in Oregon cleaning out her Husbands things after he passed away found a LORTONE Rock Tumbler, asked me if I wanted it and she sent it to me !

This is the Tumbler I am running that is Old !  I just ordered a New One Last Night as this old one is wearing out like me !

 This is the Black Barrel that slowly spins the rocks around with Metal Grit to smooth them out,   This tumbler is hard rubber, it was ran for 7 days, 24 hour's a day to grind down thew rocks !

Marching towards Spring

 Well, We got our Storm, about a foot of Snow Friday,  We had neighbors come and Snow Blow out the driveway and 1 neighbor came and shoveled off the back deck !

This was the front Yard Thursday, afternoon, notice all the Grass !

This was our Tard Saturday afternoon after the Neighbors cleaned us out,  Our regular man "Quit" on us !   Thankfully Blessed with great Neighbors !

The foot of snow was Wet, Heavy moisture filled packy snow,  Great for Snowmen, snowball fights and snow forts !

This is our Retired Members of the Police Departments Monthly "HIGH NOON" lunch, We added up all the years of Service from each officer and here sits 245 years of Police Service !  WoW !

Not Much doing yet as we are waiting for Spring, spring clocks forward Saturday Night so that is one good sign.

I managed to deliver Sundays Message at Church and did all right.
