Ending October

WOW, October is going, going, almost gone, it's 8PM, dark and cold,  29 degrees out right now,  we were up early and off to the eye doctor for My Honeys 8AM appointment, Checkup was good but does not want to remove the stitch in her eye !     She has to go back in 3 weeks !

.

.
New Boiler working well,  Wife's Brother came while we were gone this morning and installed the Base Board Unit in the back part of the Basement,  It's cool in there !
.
The new Base Board unit is 8 feet long and should help with the coolness in this part of the Basement.  Mounted it tight to the floor to suck up that cold air !
.
.
The exercise area of the Basement will now be a little warmer but still cool enough to work out !
.
.
Now to finish painting the cellar and redoing my work area,  don't know if I want to move it back to where it was or rearrange it in this area !!
.
.
Don't know if I want to return my Work area back to where it was on these 2 walls or turn this area into my Music Area !  Will know more after it is painted !
.
.
This summer it was nice out in the Garage playing and relaxing, kind of cold out there now and the car is parked in there now !
.
.
We lost power Tuesday,  Thankfully the Generator kicked in and we were OK,  it ran the Furnace circulating pump, all appliances and lights !
.
.
Replanting the Oregon Glad Bulbs for next year !
.
.
Tomorrow is my Brides Birthday !  11/1 !!!!!
.
A smart man never gives away a Woman's Age, so I will stay smart !!!!!

Fall

Well, Fall is here with it's changing weather and the scenes change also !

.

.
Late yesterday afternoon, 10/27/2020 it started, We got our 1st "Snowstorm" !  Some wind and Rain and then it changed to a dusting of snow here but in higher elevations there was about a 1/2 inch of snow !  Cold and can feel the change !
.
.
I went outside and drained water hose, opened faucets after turning off the water to them in the cellar !   Cleared the garage of things so the car will fit,  started getting ready for the change from summer to Fall !!
.
.
We got the Rose bush on the right side transplanted today and poured a gallon of sugar water on the roots to ease the transplant shock, we didn't do it a month ago to the one on the right and it went into "Shock" !   As you can tell our "Snowfall" has melted and washed away !
.
.
My Honey helped me put up the freshly repainted Platform Bird Feeder the same color as the deck, looks better !   Roof is Plexiglass as it makes picture taking easier of the birds we get !
.
One of the Biggest Past times up here in the North Country besides Hunting and Fishing is "Bird Watching" !   I enjoy it and like seeing the Birds !
.
Glad my Buddy Jack in Florida is home  "Safe and Sound" with his Honey,  He is busy, check him out at:

Eye correction

Well, we went to the Hospital on Thursday for My Honeys scheduled Eye Surgery,  They were ready for her at 9:30AM, I was not allowed to go in with her so had to sit in the Car and Wait.  Nurse met her at the door, checked her vitals and in she went,  We texted back and forth, I went to the Diner for Breakfast while waiting and got back and parked out in front of the Hospital !

.

At 12:30 They called me on the cell phone and said she was out of surgery, she would be in Recovery for about an hour and then if no problems she could go home !

.

No problems with the Cornea Transplant and she went home.

.

,
Home from Hospital, Bedrest for rest of today and tonight, has to lay flat, back in the Morning to check Stitches, vision test and then home.  Dr. gave her an OK but has to sleep flat on her back for 2 nights, she went to the Recliner also !
.
Now have to wait to see if Transplant of the Cornea is not rejected !

Fall Colors

Well, there is nothing as Beautiful up here in the North than the turning of the leaves and the changing season from summer to fall !

.

.
The Leaves dropping and changing over by our little Park here in Deferiet !
.
.
The main Highway, Route # 3 going up into the Adirondack Mountains, this is believe it or not as slippery as Ice when these leaves get wet as there is little traction on them !
.
.
The  Canadian Geese are flying over in bigger and bigger flocks and most of them are heading South !
.
.
Woolly bear caterpillars—also called woolly worms—have a reputation for being able to forecast the coming winter weather. If their rusty band is wide, then it will be a mild winter. The more black there is, the more severe the winter.  This one looks the same on each end !
.
.
The Beech Nuts are plentiful and these are delicious and also the deer and squirrels and other critters love them, with so many of them this is supposed to be a sign of a Hard Winter !
.
.
Butternuts are also plentiful, when picking butternuts you wait till they drop to the ground and wear gloves as the juice from them stain your skin black/brown, and they need to be dried for a month so the outer shell is brittle then they can be cracked open.  One custom is every Fall in the Masonic Lodge here is we have some nice Lady make our Lodge a Butternut Cake with Maple Syrup Frosting !!YUMMY !!!
>
.
Once cracked open carefully you gently pick the white nut out and they are delicious,  They also look almost identical to a Black Walnut but don't see them up here too often !
.
.
Down near the river they are a lot of old Oak Trees and they are loaded with Acorns and the ground is also, sure are a lot of them this year !!!!!    Critters usually gather them all up an haven't seen this many in a few years,  Just might be Mother Nature telling us to fill the Freezer and Root Cellar for this Winter !

Well it's installed

We finished up the Boiler this afternoon, I am glad the Boiler is in, have a Large  Baseboard Heating unit to install down here in the Basement but have shut off's Valves installed so can work on that anytime now.  Got to figure out how to remove the Old Boiler up 10 steps and get it outside.

.

.
North East Contractor getting new Pressure Tank unboxed so can get it fitted in !
.
.
Circulating Pump above running quietly, reconfigured it to allow easier installation !
.
.
Split the Main Line to cover each end of the house so could throttle down water supply to either side almost like having it Zoned,  My Plumber is excellent !
.
.
Electric hooked up, Gas reconnected, Thermostat Tied in !    Water turned on, Gas turned on and Switch thrown and we have Pressure, Old Boiler set at 140,000 btu but this small unit is set for 180,000 btu and it didn't take long to get it right up there.
.
Well it went well until these old Base Board Units got "Air Locked" and the Bleeder Valves I found didn't allow me to open them and bleed the air off as they would break!  Scratching our heads as we were NOT going to replace these Base Board Heaters we had to think about it and find a plan ! SO we   shut the Boiler down to think !
.
.
We decided to cut into the Return Line, Put in a "Bleeder Valve" and hooked up a Washing Machine Hose to it and refired up the Boiler and waited a couple minutes.
.
.
We opened the Valve part way and Water was running clear when we opened the Bleeder and then "Bang", out came rust colored water and lots of Air Bubbles and sure enough we were breaking the Air Blockage in the Base Boards and even was cleaning out a unit somewhere that was starting to plug but no idea which one !
.
.
My Honey and our North East Contractor, Her Brother Matt !   Man is awesome !
.
.
"Got er Almost Done" but the rest that I need to do is is not that bad !
.
I am Beat and put in an Honest Days Work, Early Bed Time tonight for sure !

Boiler replacement

Well, today was the day we started the Boiler Replacement, when we bought this house last summer we knew that the Old Boiler had to be replaced so we needed to save up some money !

.

Well, this Morning Empire Northeast Contracting showed up, we disconnected the Electric, Shut off the Gas, hooked up a drainage line and started the shut down.

.

.
The old "Utica Boiler" !   Being dismantled and removed !
.
.
We   drained 8 - 5 gallon Pails of water out of the Boiler, I was surprised that the Water was crystal clear, not one bit of discolor in it !
.

.
Got it off the Pad, Pad cleaned and ready to get the New Boiler off the Truck and inside !
.
.
In front is the Blue color New Utica Boiler,  In back is the larger Grey Utica Boiler we removed, This Boiler is small but needed to go get the Neighbors to help struggle and jockey this 450 pound little Boiler down into the Basement !  We did it, it is on the Pad and by 5PM we are 50 to 60% complete !
.
.
I am amazed at the Old and the New, A Hacksaw and a "Hacksaw" !
.
.
This is a Cutter for cutting Copper tubing up to 3 inch.  Awesome tool and saves a lot on the wrist !
.
It was 5:30PM and I called it quits, I am tired, long day but I was careful on lifting and straining.   Gonna be an early Bed to rest up to finish tomorrow and turn the heat back on !   Thankfully it is gonna be in the 60's tonight and maybe 70's tomorrow !
