Sad Day

Deferiet is a small Village,  I think about 250 People live here, streets are narrow, some don't even have sidewalks,  No Stores, no post office, and a river runs thru it !   Everyone knows about 1/2 of everyone who lives here.    We lived here once, moved away for 12 years and then moved back.     Across the street from our house lived Henry Bailey.    Henry worked at the local High School as a custodian,  when we lived here the first time Henry would Snow Blow and shovel our sidewalk and drive way.

.

.

Henry lived right across the street, this is his house and Garage,   from a summer picture, No one has seen Henry so we called the Police for a welfare check.

.

.
Troopers arrived and tried the front and Back Doors, then came over to see me and I advised them that I had not seen Henry for probably a couple weeks but this was not suspicious as it is winter and people stay in for periods of time, but Henry had not brought his Trash out this  week  so I advised them of this !
.
.
Trying to see inside the House !
.
.
They found Henry sitting on his Sofa, he had passed away watching TV !
.
Life is unexpected and one has to enjoy today and live it to its fullest !

Neighbors

We had a Green Christmas,  It was OK, then in came the Snow, and more snow, then more snow !  We would have been buried as my man I hired for the winter didn't start till this morning !  BUT with great "Neighbors" we made out OK,    My Neighbor Barry came over once and cleaned out over 6 to 8 inches of Snow from walk and driveway !

.

.
Barry works for a Cable TV Company and does the High Top work.     It still snowed and snowed and we got another 6+ Inches of more Snow !
.
.
My Neighbor on the East side of the House is learning to use a Snow Blower, She is a Petite young Lady, Works for New York State and is an outside person,  She went slow and easy and cleaned out our Driveway of another 6+ Inches of Snow.  Meanwhile the Village kept plowing the Street and plugging the driveway entrance !
.
Later that Night at 9PM My Neighbor Barry came back and redid the driveway for the 3rd time and opened us up so we could get out if an Emergency !
.
We managed to get out this morning and made it to Church, we got over 2 feet of Snow, some places more !    I know the Snow Mobiler's will flock to this area now as we have "Snow" for riding.
.
.
Time to fill the feeders for the Birds,  I got the Front feeder filled!
.
.
Back Feeder is Done,  I am dressed warm, I go to the Dentist Tuesday for a Tooth Extraction and am on Heavy Antibiotics so keep warm !
.
.
Sunday Dinner was a surprise, one of my favorite meals among many is Hamburger/onions over Rice, Gravy and Green Bean Cassarole.  My Honey made it for me !
.
.
My Honey and "Tipper" relaxing,  our Minister is on Vacation and My Honey helped do the service today and is writing down some things for the next Church Meeting !

Winter's Back

We had a Nice quiet Christmas, It was a "Green Christmas" with no Snow,  We had a Nice Pot roast smothered in Onions, Au Jus, Mashed Potatoes, Green Bean Casserole dinner rolls and A small glass of Vin Rose Wine.

.

Delicious Meal with My Honey !
.
We went to bed with a Green Lawn, streets bare and the forecast calling for snow,  12 -18 inches of SNOW !
.
.
We woke up to Snow, We went to Bed Green !
.
.
The Plow went thru and plugged the driveway Entrance right after the Neighbor Snow Blowed it out !      The street we live on is a little narrow black top street,  they come thru and Plow it, THEN come backl and replow it again and then come back for the 3rd time and spread sand and salt !!!!     Can not figure out why they Plow it the 2nd and 3rd time !!!!!
.
.
My Honey with our New SnoJoe Snow Thrower, NOT a Snow Blower.
.
.
Cleared off the Deck this morning with the "SnoJoe" !
.
.
This was all Green Grass yesterday and this Morning there is about 6 inches of Fresh Snow !
.
.
My Neighbor, Barry works for Spectrum.   Great Neighbor, he lived next door to us when we lived here in Deferiet 14 years ago, he was a Great Neighbor then also.
.
.
The second trip thru with the plow and you can see there is nothing being pushing off the street and should be sanding the road instead of coming back for the 3rd time,  *(end of rant) !
. Hope everyone had a Great Healthy Christmas !

Tragic Fire

If you saw yesterdays Post where I showed the Smoke coming from across the wooded area from our Back Deck the Garage fire was a Tragic Event.

.

.
This was the scene of the Garage Fire reported to be at 58 Anderson Avenue,  Assisting were fire departments from Deferiet, Natural Bridge, Great Bend, Carthage, West Carthage, North Pole, and Fort Drum......

Also assisting were Carthage Ambulance, Natural Bridge Ambulance, West Carthage Police, Cleveland Services, and the county’s Medical Examiner’s Office.

.

When the fire was "knocked Down on the Garage they found that there was a body in the garage.  The 2 Dogs were outside the garage and survived.

.

.
The fire was not on Anderson Ave, it was on Riverside Drive, There not releasing the deceased name,  If you look at the top right hand side of the picture you will see a house that used to be where my Daughter and Son in Law lived next door to the deceased.  He was a quiet man, lived alone with his 2 small dogs !   Sad and Tragic event !!
.
.
Southeren New York State got an amazing 40 - 50 Plus inches of snow, we got a light dusting !
.
.
This picture above shows Drifts that developed from snow storms !
.
.
Hopefully it is supposed to warm up !

Busy Place

Well, we got out Snow, We got a dusting of Snow, maybe an inch or so, not much compared to central New York and down State that got Hammered with FEET of Snow !

.

.
The Village of Deferiet Plowing our Street, they must be practicing as this is their 3rd trip down our little street in the past hour, might be training a new driver !!!!
.
.
Cat has not tore down much of the Christmas Tree so we feel blessed, just tore off some garland so far !!!
.

.
.
The Carthage Area Rescue Squad and Deferiet Fire Department responding to our Street this Morning to assist and transport someone to Carthage Area Hospital, Prayers they are OK !
.
.
This afternoon about 4PM directly behind these woods is Anderson Avenue and they had a major Fire where a Large detached Garage caught fire, we could see the smoke and hear the popping and cracking of the Fire and sounded like some Ammo going off that might have been stored in the Garage !
.
Well it is time for the News so need to see what is happening !

Weather Changing

As I sit here this morning  I look out at Green Grass, Christmas decorations and "No Snow", I am not Bragging,  we had Temps in the high 40's an at night in the 30 it has not been bad but it appears we have a winter storm coming in bringing already cold Temps,  it is 18 degrees right now !!!

.

I read Jacks Blog over on "Shipslog";  Shipslog (shipslog-jack.blogspot.com)  about our Earliest Memories.

.

I went to a Country School, I had to walk probably a 1/4 of a mile from our House, down a flat strech of dirt road, up a hill and there was School.  Grades 1 K thru 8th Grade !   Single Room, Large Round Oak Wood Stove in middle, wooden bench seating, Grades set together, 1 Teacher, no running water, Outhouse out back for relief, a huge Wood Shed attached to the School in Pond Settlement.

.

.
I am # 14,  Mostly Cousins, a sister  #9  and 1 brother # 20.
.
.
Above is Pond Settlement School,  After the School closed my sister and brother in law bought it and remodeled  it into a nice little home !
.

.
I remember being dressed for school, Kindergarten, I had on Shoes, and Short Pants and Suspenders, I refused to wear them to school as neighbors had on Pants an belts.   I got spanked and marched to school and pretty much wore what I was told to.
.
.
Hand Me Downs from older Brothers were common attire if one didn't want to go Naked !  LOL !
.
