Under the Weather

My Grandpa used to say when you didn't feel good "You Must Be Under The Weather" !  Yup, Sunday night I am sitting in my Recliner, Chest Pain, Short of Breath,  My Honey called 911, W had Great Bend, Deferiet, Fort Drum Medics, EMT, and I am transported to Carthage Hospital, checked over, got stable and then Transferred to St. Josephs Hospital Cardiac Unit in Syracuse !

I was checked over, given Pain Killer, Nitro Glycerin Tablets, and put back in an Ambulance and takn down to Syracuse,   Admitted to the Cardiac floor on D East at 3AM, I have been here several times !

.

We were x rayed, given some fluids and put to bed at 5AM.

.

Up Early, Blood work, Echo Cardiogram of the Heart and also a Nuclear Stress Test, back to the room, put back to bed, and a stdy stream of Doctors, consults, Nurses, Heart Doctors and  it appears they needed more blood ad tests.

.

I stayed another night and today was given another Echogram, compared it to an older one and shows some aging of Heart Muscles and Vessals.  So I was sent back to my room, had my Medicines changed, and then called my wife to come and get me this afternoon,   

.

My Wife was not allowed in the Hospital with me, No Visitors, it was rough !!

.

Well,  I am now home, sore, full of Puncture Holes, Band Aids and relaxing and an early Bed.   

.

Changes and Weather

Well, the weather changed and woke up to cold, 38 and heavy rains, so it was an inside day after Church,    Anna Mae did the Church Service on ZOOM on the Internet, we had 41 people turn in to watch or listen !   I did the Prayers of the People !  Good Service, My Honey did a Great Message  !

After Church 11AM Service we had lunch then started a Batch of Wild Onion Soup again !
.

 Leeks, Onion, Potatoes, Bacon, Chicken Broth, Heavy Cream !

Bacon Cooked crispy and then crumbled !

The leeks all washed and then chopped up and added to the stock Pot !

Cooking up a nice Leek Soup again, Leeks are good but smelly !

Keeping Busy

Staying Busy on this "Lock Down"-Shut In we are going thru,  I spent today outside on the yard, Garden Shed, Cloths Lines, Bird Feeders, Bird Houses, Shrubbery and fertilizing the lawn and more !

My Honey digging around some Bushs we are going to have our Son In Law come and pull out to get rid of !

.

This is our first Spring in our New (Old) House and we are making some changes !  Son in Law came and Grandson to remove some Prickly Bush's in front, We all stayed our 6 feet apart !

.

Choker Chain around the first Bush, Grandson driving the Truck and out the first one came !

.

.

Brent, our Grandson just turned 19, he works in the Kitchen in one of our Local Restaurants, Great Cook, Good worker and loves working in the Kitchen !

The last bush is out and I am glad and so is my Honey !

.

.

I got the Drone all charged up, Fresh Batteries and out we went to see how much I remember from Last year of flying it, just a little wind but not bad !

.

.

Time to slow down, get the Charcoal out and Crisp up a Steak for dinner !  I cooked us a nice New York Strip !

.

.

Steak Medium Rare, Tossed Salad, Hot Johnny Cake and it was delicious !

.

Mother Natures Onions

LEEKS, My Honey and I went to Oswegatchie to see my Brother Jim, 2nd oldest in the Family and we went back into the side hill behind his house and "Dug Up" some more LEEKS !!

This is the Tangled Mess we went thru to get to the Leeks !

.

We got them dug and it was tough digging due to the rocks, blackberry bushs and side hill !

.

.

My Brother Jim is 87 years Old, lives alone in the Country in a Nice Mobile Home.  He had already dug me some Leeks but I wanted some more so we went and Dug them, On the Bench is my "Shovel",  The "Entrenchment Tool" works great as it can be a shovel or also a Hoe and we got em dug !

.

.

On the way out of the Woods we found this nice clump of Daffodils, probably from there from "Bird Droppings" of the seeds  !     Or dug up and ate by a Bear and dropped in his "Scat" !   My Brother has a Bear around his place as he hears it snarl and growl at night !

.

.

When we left my Brother Jim gave Anna Mae a wooden Church that My Oldest Brother John *(RIP) made him but needs repair so I get to repair it !!!

Home with the Leeks and unloaded the SUV and now it's time to clean them !

.

.

LEEKS, Have not had them in a few years and they are just a little small, My Honey will be making a Potato, Leek, Bacon Soup  soon and will also Pickle some in a nice Brine like she does Deer Hearts !

.

.

Ready to cut and clean Leeks and get them ready !

.

.

Almost all cleaned,  That wire coming out of my shirt goes to my Heart Monitor that I had put on yesterday at the Cardioligist Office to wear for 24 hours !

.

.

Now, Chop up the leeks, like an Green Onion, Brown in old skillet with Butter and salt, add pinch of salt, then 4 nice pieces of Salt Pork or Bacon,  Boil Potatoes, drain cut up and add to frying pan of leeks and then let simmer for hour,  Smells Delicious,  remove, take out Salt Pork and bay leaves leave out or chop up Bacon,  Add to soup pot, add potatoes and either use Heavy Crème or Light Crème and cook for an hour or 2,   Make Johnny Cake or Corn Bread and there is your delicious wild leek soup !

All that is left is:     "Sweepers, Sweepers, man your brooms. Give the ship a clean sweep down both fore and aft  ! Sweep down all decks, ladders and passageways! Dump all garbage clear of the fantail  !

.

Staying Safe

This is tough, we like to get out, go fishing, have a Picnic,  walk the woods,  well, the weather is not cooperating nor is the Lock Down and Closing of many stores and Business places, tough to find Fish Worms and Minnows.

The above picture is around 1974, we were sent to a Bar Fight and during the scuffle I ended up having a subject in "Combat Boots" haul off and kick me in the Ankle, POP, SNAP, yup, down I went and did it ever hurt,  I was taken to Mercy Hospital and surgery for a Broken ankle, snapped a few small bones, I know it hurts every winter or when the weather changes !  I was off work 8 weeks in the summer with this !

.

I also broke my left thumb 3 times, another Ankle Injury, lost several teeth, cracked 3 ribs, a black eye and bloody nose, but being outside the Army Base and a Naval Militia Base in the same city with 2 week Reservist training it was a rough City !  

.

.

At a Large Fight, Bar Fight, or where there are many people, 1 or 2 officers do not get into the melee, there "Job" is to arrive on scene, unsecure their weapon,  *(12 guage Mossburg Shotgun" and stand back and watch for weapons, after the broken Ankle I did this duty for several months until I could walk again and go back to "Walking a Beat" !

Myself and Deputy Tom Belden, *(RIP) working the big "Jefferson County Fair"  was Great Duty walking the Midway, after the Fair closed for the Day all the Carny Food Booths brought us Food Galore,   Sausage, Pizza, Clams, Chicken, Shrimp !   We ate like kings, we had a Mobile Home donated for our use during Fair Week !

I would go home and My Dad and I would sit for hours looking at Pictures, talking about my "Adventures" and enjoying each others company,  sadly my Dad Passed away when I was just 35 Years Old !

.

Lock Down

WoW !   We are down now until May 15,  Way up here in the North Country,  We just had a nice lady who is one of our close friends make us a bag full of "MASKS"!!!!  We are now required as of 8PM tonight to not go into a Business, garage, hardware store, "Unless" we are wearing a "Mask" !

I have been wearing a mask for several winters now as the cold bothers my lungs !!
.

.

These masks are to be worn then thrown away, we are supposed to wear a Cloth mask and take it off and wash it,  Well we have 7 masks apiece now,  lucky we don't have to wear them fishing, walking in the woods, only if we are 6 feet closer to another person !

.

Oh well, Different States, different ideas,  No place for Politics here.

.

.

One thing, we don't have to wear them in the car, or in our house or outside !

.

.

Today, April 17th, it "Snowed", it is cold, 27 when we got up and warmed up to 34,  come on summer !

.

.

Well, Summer is coming, so isn't fishing and walks and Picnics but just have to make some adjustments I guess to some new ways, Thankfully, God has it under control !

.

.

A Spring walk

We went down and got to the river and we walked the "Deferiet River Walk" trail, it is about a 2 mile walk but we didn't go that far !
..

.

The walk starts out right off NYS RT # 3 by the Black River Bridge,  it is a nice wide trail/path !

.

.

The Beautiful Black River, this is going to be a great fishing spot !

.

.

There was some off paths but searching and looking didn't find any "Leeks" or "Wild Onions" !

.

.

We walked half way in, about 1/4 mile and then came back out, I am still not back to where I want to be Physically as I want to be, hopefully it comes in time

.

Getting thru the Days

Well, Monday (today) we went to town and My Honey did the Bank Deposit for Church, we checked the Church and Parsonage/Ed Building,  and came home, we are getting awesome strong winds and rain and then heavy Wind Gusts!  It is rough in places according to the news but it is up in the low 60 for Temps !
.

.

Tonight My Honey cracked 3 eggs, all 3 were big yellow nice "Double Yokes" in each one,  We buy our eggs right from "Roggies Chicken Farm" and like paying less than the grocery store and their fresh eggs !

.

.

  Some Pork Sausage, English Muffin & PB an Jam and we had Breakfast for Supper !

.

  We had a delicious Easter Dinner of Ham and fixins !

.

.

My Honey after the "Blessing" was said ready for Easter Brunch !

.

.

. I cooked a Brown Sugar, Pineapple Glazed Ham,  added Mashed Taters, Sweet Carrots, Waldorf Salad, Warm Pineapple, Dinner rolls and we had a Delicious Dinner !

.

.

Desert was a homemade Chocolate, sweet crust Pie with Whipper Creame and it was smooth and delicious !!!

.

Right now at 7PM we have heavy winds and power outages around so will quit before we lose power !

.

Another Northern New York Day,

We are still trying to stay away from people, If we go out we wear a Mask and use soap and water and also alcohol wipes !
.

.

We called ahead and ordered our Friday night dinner, it was a large Haddock Filet, Hot Buttered Baked Beans with Brown Sugar, Mac and 3 types cheese and Coleslaw and Dinner Rolls from Jeans Beans in Watertown !   Delicious, savory, awesome feast for Good Friday !

.

After moving in to our New (Old) House we had to replace several Items,   We went out and bought a new Electric Weed Eater, My Honey also purchased me....(wait for it)... a John Deere Green, 16 Horse Power, 42 inch cut Riding Lawn Mower, because I can no longer with the Heart Issues and  left sided weakness from the Stroke do the mowing with a Push Mower!!!

Here is my Son in Law Delivering it this afternoon !

Sitting in the Drivers Seat, Now I just need to read the Manual and learn to operate this mighty Yellow and Green Piece of Machinery !!!!!!   Can't wait !!!

Today for "Holy Saturday" we had to go up to Church,  My Honey does the Finances and did some catching up, I checked some damages to the Church from the last Wind Storm and checked where we removed some large overgrown Cedar Trees that were supposed to be a Hedge and checked on the Kitchen Entrance  steps and concrete deck that is broken and falling to pieces from a past winters snowplowing that should have been addressed sooner !

.

Tomorrow is Easter and wishing all a Happy Easter !

Outside Yard an Roses

Well, today was the nicest day of the week or so the weatherman says so we were up early and collected out thoughts and after it warmed up to 58 we went outside,  I grabbed the shovel and dug up My Fathers Old Rosebushes that didn't do so well last summer when we transplanted them down here from West Carthage to Deferiet,  think too much shade so I with some help moved them !

This was a picture of last years Rose Bushes planted by the Garden Shed on the West Side of the shed. Don't think they got enough sun so moved them!  Thought that I could just Dig them up but that was foolish as it took it's toll on me !  But My Honey helped and we got them in the wheel borrow !

.

.

This was last summer at West Side and how they were just starting to get some good growth and I had to cut them back prune and dig them up to transfer them down to our New (Old) House here in Deferiet !

.

.

My Honey outside in the back where she is Planting some large Glad Bulbs she got from her sister in Medford Oregon,  we'll see how they do in Northern New York !

Got the Rose Bushes transplanted on the South side of the house, out front where they will get sunshine all day from sunshine from the east to the west!!  Hope it helps !

I am down, I am beat, gotta learn to slow down and realize I am not 60 years old anymore !   We are mostly staying HOME to avoid this Virus!  Sad that so many people are not !!!

My Honey, like the "Energizer Bunny", she keeps going and going and going !!!

Done for the day, now to pick up and put things away !  All that's left is filling the Bird Feeders !
