Old Timer's Gardening an Family Respect

Well, it's almost summer and Memorial Day has come and gone so that only means 1 thing,  "Gardens" and Gardening !    I am at the age now that after 2 falls and sprains and a hair line fracture of the hip I can not "Bend Over" nor if I get down on the ground and sit It is almost imp[ossible to gwet back up on my feet!

We had to think about this when we were driving over to Post Office and saw in front of a House a pair of steps, about 4 feet long with 3 steps, we stopped and talked to the fella who was in the Military and was rebuilding his porch if we could but the steps,  He said "NO" !  but we could have them !!!LoL !!  Not only could we have them as he saw we didn't  have a truck him and his son delivered them !

We got the steps up on the deck and secured.

.

We went to the Garden Shed and brought out some 3 gallon  Dunkin Donuts pails. 

.

.

We have fresh Lettuce for sandwichs now,  the Beans have sprouted and the Cherry Tomatoes on top have rooted !

.

The Deck Garden is Done and growing !

.

The old Garden out back now has Sweet White Onions planted on the end and the other end in Lebanese Squash, *Koosa), I was lucky as the Wife helped get this all Planted !

.

We went up to Champion and the Wife planted flowers on her Mothers Plot,  This Plot is the "Waite" Family Plot, the Big stone lists the Parents an names of the 19 Children, some of whom are interred here.

In the Champion Cemetary we have purchased and have the Deed for our Final Resting Place,  It is the flat white Concrete Slab with no Head Stone on it yet.  Don't want to use it for a few years yet.

We went to Pond Settlement and visited my Parents Lot, John and Ethel Wood and pulled a few weeds, my Brother who lives near by does the flowers.

Our last Stop was South Edwards Cemetary, Standing I can see my Great Great Grandfather Silas Wood an wife Laura,  Next to them is his Brother James Wood and Elizabeth,  past them is my Great Grandfather John Wood and his wife Addie,  In front of Him is my Grandfather Silas Wood and his wife Margaret.

Paid our Respects and headed Home !

FIRE !!

Our little Village of Carthage has an "AGWAY" Store, it's owned by Mr. and Mrs. Simons, and is now run by their Daughter and Son in Law,  It was a Feed Store, Hardware for Farmers, Seed for Planting but as Farms decreased they went into other items to stay up to date,  Every Spring they get in Baby Ducks, Chickens and also had Rabbits, Gold Fish and Plants and Flowers, Wood Chips and some Cattle, Horse, Chicken and Pig  Feed  !

Well the other night someone from the Senior Citizen Housing awoke and saw flames coming from the roof and took this picture after calling in a Fire.!

.

Totally engulfed, Fire Department was assisted by 6 other local Departments but could not Stop the Fire !

As the Morning came this is the Front of the Store !

Thankfully enough Water was poured on the Large Propane Tank in lower left of Picture to keep it cool !

We are close to the Family and they said to us they were going to probably rebuild after Insurance settled.   The cause of the Fire was a "Heat Lamp" hanging above a Tank that housed Baby Chicks and  it either fell or shorted out causing the Fire !

.

We hope they rebuild as we shop there a lot !

.

Not much else going on except taking it easy on this Hip and Leg and doing my Streches, Exercises and putting Heat and Ice on it off and on and using ASPERCREAME with Lidocaine !

.  

We are starting to warm up outside but slowly, it's 63 now and 74 in the house !

.

.

My Honey out pulling weeds and getting ready for picking some Rhubarb for Pies and Cakes !

I am just relaxing trying to stay off this leg an Hip !

.

Taking it easy

 Well, the leg is still sore and so is the Hip,  I am in Physical Therapy 2 or 3 times a week and it is slowly helping, I am learning the names of Muscles I never knew existed like abductor and adductor an trapoid and they Strech, pull, twist, turn them on my left leg from my knee to my hip and to me lower back !

.

.

One problem is that I have a hard time doing my chores,  Mowing on the riding mower, weedeating, the Garden plants, Flower Beds, filling Bird Feeders. Doing the Best I can !

.

So, Watching the Birds, Relaxing, Taking Naps, and puttering around outside is pretty much what this summer i am doing !

.

Resting and Rocking

 Well, Waiting for tomorrow to be evaluated by Physical Therapy on my hip, leg and knee ?    So toda I checked the Rocks in the tumbler I am grinding down and watched the Birds !  

.

At Noon we got dressed and went to calling Hours and a Funeral for a  Young man from our Church who passed away in his sleep,  this was a tragic weekend,  We had a close friend Tom age 72 from the American Legion who shot himself down in the Cemetary,  another Death nearby from a bad Car Accident of a 31 year old young man. and another death from a Man who went into the River. 

.

 Sad how life can end so quickly, or slowly,  My Wifes Uncle who is 88 years old is in the Hospital and has made up his mind to stop all treatments as his kidneys have shut down and he will slowly pass away, He said on a phone call that he was ready and was sick of treatments !

.

My Brother Jim just turned 90, my cousin Belva turned 90 and both active and enjoying life.

.

Taking the rocks out of the Grit water and soap,

These "Tumbled" Rocks are now ready to be ground down and them cleaned and Polished !

.

The Baltimore Orioles are now back and we have 4 or 5 of them !

.

.

We also had an Orchard Oriole here now, they are Brown chested instead of Yellow !

.

.

We have been waiting for the "Hummingbirds" and while having Dinner we looked out and they were back feeding, !   Truly Summer is coming !

Resting and Hoping !

Well after "Falling" and going to a Doctor, x-Rays- then to an Orthopedic Surgeon the injury to my Hip and Left Leg just may be able to not have surgery and Physical Therapy will to the Job of getting me back walking !

.

.

I have a Cane and a Walker I use so am able to get around so I went out finally after a few weeks of doing nothing and cooked us up a Top Round piece of Steak and let me tell you it was good !

.

.

Great Steak and a Tossed Salad with my Rood Beer for Dinner !

.

.

Neighbor helped move this Pair of Steps up on the Deck as this year we are going to used 3 gallon plastic buckets for some of our plants and grow them on the deck !  I had to make a small repair and paint t piece of bare wood before placing it !

.

.

With Neighbors help they put it in place in corner of deck so it gets the East and West sunshine !

.

.

To keep it from moving or sliding I used (L) braces to connect to the 4 X 4 post and the deck floor and it is sturdy !

.

.

The pails we are using came from Dunkin Donuts from a Friend of Ours !

.

. 

Our First ever Blue Bird here in Deferiet !   Without must being able to do I still do watch my Bird and Play with Rocks and Play Music !

.

.

The front yard feeder is still busy with Grosbeaks, Cardinals, Sparrows, Tufted Titmice, Gold Finches, We are waiting for Baltimore Orioles and Humming Birds !

.

The Back Yard Oriole Feeder and Humming Bird Feeders are up and ready waiting for the Birds!
