BANG. SNOW STORM !

It started SNOWING at 5 am this morning and has snowed all day, it is after 10PM and we have now gone past the 24 inch mark and it is supposed to stop about 1AM!

It is also cold !!!!

It just kept coming down !!!!

This is a New York State Plow Truck that got stuck outside the Village !

This is the Patio and Picnic Table an Grill, there is at 10PM over 24 inches of snow and still snowing !!!

.

Hope it is a quiet day tomorrow, it will take a couple days to clean up all the Snow and clear the Roads and Restore Power !!

Tomorrow is 12/07/2018,  Day of Infamy!  Let us not forget !

Christmas is coming

Well, Christmas is coming and I beleve it is going to be a "White Christmas" again this year, does not look like we will be in Florida at Lake " O " for the Holidays as we have been in the past !

This was me in 2006 putting the Old Glass top on our 4 foot tree in Buckhead Ridge over by Lake Okeechobee, we rented here for either 5 or 6 years and really liked it, it was a small Mobile Home,  1 bedroom, 1 bath but nice Florida Room !    We really enjoyed it as I could fish every Day and relax!

We have gone thru Zillow this year looking for something to rent for January thru March and are getting lots of replys,   but they are too big for our simple needs,  I don't need to pay for 3 or 4 bedrooms and 2.5 bathrooms.  This picture above shows me about 280 pounds,  now I am 200 and feel better !

This is what we love to spend out time doing, Fishing, Picnics, and exploring !

Snow Here !!!!!!

Well, Mother Nature has sent "Winter" to the North Country, she is making sure it stays a few days, temps are in the 30's and we have about 6 inches of SNOW !

It is OK to drive in and looks pretty as long as the roads are bare and wet !!!!!  and NO   "Black Ice" !

.

.

All the leaves shown are the last ones to fall up here, these are from the big old Oak Tree,  The Squirrels, chipmunks, some birds use these leaves for bedding for the winter and they come down last !  Bird feeders are bare of snow !

.

We got about 6 inches of snow if you look at the yellow feeder next to the one I cleaned off !   I am standing in between 5 - 6 inches of snow. 

.

Sunday,  December 2nd it is going to be RAIN and some local FLOODING !!!!!!

Thankful Thanksgiving

It has been a busy weekend,  We went down to Morrisville for a 4 day retreat,  we went on Thursday the 14th,  all went well, Prayers, Singing, lots of food and about 40 people sleeping through out the Church and woke up Singing Friday Night I lost my voice, couldn't talk or sing,  Saturday morning woke up and went to an Urgent Care, they called 911 and I was transported to St. Josephs Hospital for breathing problems and chest pain,   breathing treatments, some Codeine Syrup, and we came home, later on a trip to another Hospital as I was am still am Coughing up Blood !      Think it's the Pneumonia got me!

Up early, cleaned and got the "Bird" ready for cooking, made the Apple Stuffing and got the Bird cooking !
.

.

Potatoe's, Squash, Stuffing and Broth as neither of us can eat Gravy.   Turkey came out OK !

.

My Favorite, the Drumstick !    Was delicious meal, So much to be Thankful for!     God is Good !!!

Fresh Ice Cream and Pecan Pie for me and it was "Nap Time" !!!!

Winter Weather Arrives

WoW,  We attempted to drive up to see our Friends, No Such Luck, had to turn around,  White Outs, Wind, Temperature at 27 than 32 that 28 degrees and slippery roads.     We were going to go see my friend who just lost his younger Brother to a Stroke and Heart Attack, He was only 69 years old.  So Sad!

This is half of our Parking lot, with the snow it makes it slippery and dangerous to walk in !!!  The lady coming in in the Van is our Neighbor,  she is coming home from the store !

My Honey in her new Fur Lined hooded coat, we hate to break down and buy new clothes but sometimes ya just have to !

I had to dig out my winter frock to wear, it was just a tad cold !!!

Snowing

Well, it is Snowing lightly and cold, this is how it is starting this year,  In 2008 and in 2010 by October 30th we had a foot or more of Snow that stayed till April,   In 2012 we had a bitter snow storm on Mothers Day in May !!!

It is not bad yet and hopefully it waits as it is "Deer Season" and I need to Fill the Freezer !!!!

This was outside our window and would have been nice to knock down and cut up and put in the Freezer but I didn't want to got to Jail !!!!

Last year this was a 5 Point Buck,  this is some of what we cut up, wrapped, and froze up for the winter months !  It does not look like much but a 100 pound deer will only give you about 35 pounds of meat ! 

.

Well, Sunday is Veterans Day, Thank You All Current  and Past Veterans for your Service !

ELECTION DAY

I will be $o glad when December gets here, I am so Sick of all the Million$ and Million$ of Dollar$ spent on Election Ad$ telling me who I $hould Vote for and How bad their opponent I$,  there are $tarving Children, Homele$$ Veteran$, and People who need help.

What is wor$e is after the Election the$e People who get Elected $tart building their Fortune and Fame and forget all about any Promi$e made a$ to how they are going to help u$ !   Sick of it !

Wild Ginseng

When I was growing up my Dad would always take some of us Boys with him when he wandered the woods,  He showed us Herbs, wild plants and Nature!  1 such Item I use today is "Wild Ginseng" !
.

The best time to find Ginseng was in the late summer when it went into Berry Mode which made it easier to spot as it looks like so many other green leaf plants, the berries are small, red berries.  The plant does grow in clumps of several plants but usually up here in the Mountains it is found on the South side of a Hard wood tree hill side so it gets sun in morning and at night!

You can walk most of the day in the woods up here and be lucky to find one good sized root,  These 3 roots are about 8 to 10 years old,  If you can find enough you can sell it for about $100 to $150 dollars a pound, IF you buy it you will pay about $15.00 to $20.00 an OUNCE !!!

.

My father during the depression grew Ginseng in Beds and sold it for extra Income, most of it went to Canada and was shipped overseas! 

.

We always carried a small piece of it in our pocket about the size of a Peanut, you would shave off very small pieces of it if you had a sour stomach, headache, I have not carried any of it in many years and only bring this up as I was at the Funeral Home today and was talking to my cousins about it.

.

We have had our second frost and we got about an inch of snow but it has melted and gone.   Tomorrow I have to travel back home to play and sing again at the Funeral Home for my Cousin who passed over !

Time Flies !

I saw a post on Face Book about if you still have any friends from High School.  Well, Yes and No !!!  Probably my best friend from High School was Michael Jospeh Hart,  His mother was a Pat Teacher and his Father Joe ran the Hoist at the Talcville Mines.  We were close,  We all went down to the recruiters Office right after High School Graduation, 1965,  there was me, Mike Hart, Bob Watson, Ricky Uruburu, Alan Uruburu, Morley Goodale, Dick Taylor, Mike Duffy, Floyd Thornton,   We graduated June 25, and all received our Draft Notices , GREETINGS FROM THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES,  blah, blah, blah, Watson, Uruburus, Hart all went Air Force,  Thorton, Goodale, went Army,  Taylor and I went Navy.  Off we went !!!!   Some of us didn't come home, some of us found out years later we brought stuff home we didn't want, Time Marched on,   Mike Hart and I stayed friends for years and years.

This was us 20 years after graduating High School in 1985 in Appling Georgia, Mike was working for the Telephone Company, I was a Policeman in New York State, we probably talked to each other weekly for years on the phone.

Growing up I went to a country School, came from a family of 8 kids and mom and dad, we did not have inside plumbing, we had an "Outhouse, or Backhouse",  I had never seen a flush toilet till I went to the Central School in the 5 th Grade.  Mike showed me how to "Flush a Toilet" !   Mike is in an Urn in a closet in his house in Appling Georgia, his Widow is keeping him there.  She is nasty !!!!!!!!!   Said he will be buried with her when she passes!

I am number 14, my sister is number 9 and many cousins in this picture, this is Pond Settlement School which I walked to till the 5th Grade when they shut it down and sent us all to the Central School,  Grades 1 thru 8 went here !  My Job was to go out and Pump Water and carry it n and fill the big water pail,  In winter all boys stacked wood we carried in for the old wood stove in the center of the School room !

Last Picture of Mike, I was recovering from Heart Surgery and in Rough Shape, He drove up from Georgia to New York State to see me while I was recovering in the Hospital as I was not doig good, he spent a week with me !

.

Several years ago, (4)  I got a phone Call from Mike, He said, "Ya better sit down Woody"  he said I got Cancer!  His voice was raspy, he coughed, I said you want me to come to Georgia, I was ready to leave right then but he said, "NO" !  .

Mike had Cancer of the Throat,  He passed away !  

.

The Only life long friend I have besides my Ex-Wife is my Friend Marlene.   She lives in Ocala Florida, She was married 3 times,  all 3 husbands passed way!   

.

.

.

Marlene grew up in a house that was a Old School Bus made into a home,   This was our 50th High School Reunion !

.

Wife says Bed Time,  I had Oral Surgery on Thursday and had to have a rear Molar that was a root canal dug out as it had split.    Lots of Bleeding !!!!!  Swollen cheek and teeth sore, all soft food for couple more days.

.
