Quiet Day, was a rough night last night but managed to stay out of the Hospital !!!! Getting blowing Snow and Winds and 28 degrees.
.
.
Tonight's Supper was Grilled Cheese and Tomatoe Soup and it was good, brought back many winter nights memories!
.
.
My Grandparents lived across the meadow from us, it was a 5 minute walk, thru a Wood fence line and up a hill and you entered the house thru the back room off the Kitchen ! The first thing you saw in the kitchen was the Hand Pump on the sink, the water came from a Cistern that was directly under the Kitchen floor, limestone walls and all the rain gutters drained into the Cistern, it held a lot of water.
.
.
The next thing noticeable was the Old ACORN wood cook stove, The plank floor which was over the Water Cistern would sometimes bow from the Moisture . Meals cooked slowly on this were always delicious, the best meal was supper as you smelled it cooking all afternoon !
.
.
The other wall was the Cabinet and draws which held everyday silverware, dishes and cooking ware and items for baking in smaller quanaties. Bulk items were in other cupboard.
.
.
This was where chunks of Ice stored under neath in the 2 doors, sitting above is cupboards where yeast, baking powder, eggs, bread, rice, flour, sugar, coffee were stored.
.
.
My Dad and Uncle on the wagon, Gramp Wood sitting on Ice Block taking Ice out of Jones Pond for the Ice House ! Neat place to sneak into in the summer but if caught you got swatted and scoulded for getting in there and letting in the warm air where the ice was covered with straw!
.
.
The last wall was where My Grandpa sat, beside the Sink and the Oil Heater which was always cranking out the heat, Grandpa would be dressed in wool pants, long johns, wool shirt, suspenders, his pipe and by his left arm in his Pipe and Tobacco wood holder which now sits on my bedroom dresser as I have it, The glass on the Tray did not have just orange juice in it ! (LoL)
.
.
In the Parlor where there was chairs, a day bed, big deep windows, a wood stove was where after dinner Grandma Wood (1956 Photo) could be found, she rested and then went upstairs to her room for Bed, Grandpa slept directly behind where she is sitting in his own Bedroom !
.
.
I downloaded this picture to show the wood stove that sit in the middle of the Parlor, it's stove pipe ran straight up into the hallway of the 2nd floor to help heat the 5 bedroom upstairs at the farm !
.
.
I had the rocker on the left but had to give it up after a small family feud ! Don't know where it ended up but the Leather, Horse Hide Chair on the right is in my brothers hunting camp along with the cupboard shown.
.
.
One of the 5 bedrooms upstairs at the Farm, loved sleeping up there as snuggled down in the bed your long under on, your pants, socks and shirt in the bed with you to dress in the morning, there was no heat upstairs except in the register in the floor which allowed any heat on the ceiling to come upstairs.
.
.
This was the "Feather Tick" which you sunk deeply into and was very soft and warm !
.
.
Another Bedroom and great for those who liked sleeping on a "Rock Hard" mattress which was guaranteed back ache in the morning !
.
The other 2 Bedrooms were similiar except they had 2 double beds in them for guests !
.
.
This was underneath every bed upstairs and also down stairs in Grampa's Farm House !
.
.
Going thru the kitchen, out thru the back entry way, thru the wood shed and a short walk across the lawn you entered the Little Building for relied depending on how Brave you were in the winter, Aunt Bessie loved going outside to use the facilities, it was a 3 holer !
.
.
Grandma and Gramp Wood tending the Sheep they raised and kept to sell the wool, Sheared Wool stinks, greasy, is heavy and full of burrs, ticks and flies !
.
.
Gramp and Grandma and my Aunt Florence Wood Rice, The Horses and Gramps Border Collie Cowdog in front of the Sugar Shanty which was out about a mile from the house in the Maple Grove where they made Maple Syrup.
.
.
Believe it or not Big Brother had an interest years ago,
They had to get a Permit to make Maple Syrup from the Government. Permits were needed for Sugar also.
.
.
Sitting on the Sap Sled years later thinking about what I might
.to do and I always thought I would stay on Grandpa's Farm !
.
Better close as this is not a Book but trying to stay busy!!!!!!!!
.
Don't forget, our Vets !

Dang Woody, that looked like a hard knock life. Although you seem to have all you would need. Don't you miss the simplicity of it all. Please continue to stay out of the hospital. Bless you and your wife. xoxo, Susie
Wonderful memories - and I love grilled cheese and tomato soup! Stay well!
Aww man I loved this. Sherry got here first and has been talking ever since, she loved it also. Loved the furniture and I had to say you mentioned your aunt enjoying the visit to the 'facilities' My mama used that term, and I will never forget it. Great entry. Enjoy the history!
