Took Anna Mae's Mother to JFK Medical Center in West Palm Beach for check up on her surgery and Implant,  Great News as she can do more a little more by herself !!
.
It is HOT, it was 96 in Okeechobee but news said it felt like 102, funny because back home in New York it is only 68 and my Brother is crying about how cold it is !!!!  He is wearing his coat!!!!!
.
Anna Mae's Mother lives   on a Canal that goes to "Taylor Creek and the Lock down there is closed.  Water is at 12.7 feet which is low!!   We got home and I took some free time and I WENT FISHING!!!!!!!
.
.
Bang, first cast and I got a nice scrappy "Warmouth", they are a nice scrappy fish, Anna Mae was tired and said she would take a few pictures but she was heading for the recliner in the house and chat with her mother.
.
Second cast and I got a "Whopper" as my Dad would say,  this thing put up an awesome fight but I did get it landed!!!
.
.
I finally got Anna Mae to quit laughing but she said she had to get a picture of this "Whopper" !!!
.
.
Anna Mae tried to get a picture of the Coot and her babies but they would not cooperate!
.
.
I caught about 2 dozen fish of assorted sizes and types, it was fun and my Honey finally came down and got me to come in before I got fried in the Sun or over tired!!!!
.
.
A Beautiful Sunset!!!!!!

Hotter than Blue Blazes

We are still in Florida, Anna Mae is working with her Mother helping her get back on her feet, they did not walk outside today, it was 102 on the Thermometer, "Not in the Sin", so I really don't know how hot it is outside but my Grandfather Silas would say it's "Hotter then Blue Blazes" !!!!!!
.
.
Took the rental car out for a ride, we took a break as Anna Maes Mother had some Doctor Appointments and we had some free time!!
.
.
Saw this nice beautiful Caracara and were lucky to get a photo of him.
.
.
We love to watch the Sand Hill Cranes !!
.
.
We drove over past the Old Okeechobee Land Fill and they now have it fenced in and lots  and lots of cattle there!
.
It was getting hotter so we headed back home as Anna Maes mother was due back from the Doctors office, Tomottow we have to take her to West Palm Beach to the Specialist that put in her Heart Monitor and Defib and Pacemaker..
.
I for got just how hot it could get, I do remember being below deck on the USS Morrison, FFG-13 when we lost Ventilation once and Guys were getting sick and passing out, I kind of had that feeling today till I got back inside to Air Conditioning !!!

Checking on Old Family

We went on an excursion, loaded up the car and headed out to go "Back Home" !   We went up to where I grew up, about an hour and a half from here to a Place called "Pond Settlement", you will not find it on a map nor will you find "Shawville" on the Map.
.
. The first stop was to check in with my Father and Mother,  John and Ethel Wood, they are resting in Gates Cemetery just about a mile from the house I was born and raised in, this is a Cemetery that is for the residents of Pond Settlement and Shawville who lived there and there is not fee charged for the Family Plots. Outsiders pay $250.00 for a "Plot" !    My 2 brothers John and Donnie, are here and 2 of my Nephews, all passed away in the past few years.
.

Next to the stone marker is a Rose Brush, it was purchased back in 1937 when my sister was born, he bought about 10 of them off a truck from a group of Italians that were peddling roses, flowers, apple trees from the Utica Area.     We have off shoots of them scattered around different places we lived, some places they grow big and other places they grow smaller, they are "Tea Roses".   Also buried here are my Mothers Parents and Grand Parents and Great Grandparents, the Whitford Family, also my cousins.
.
. We went from Gates over about 3 miles to Shawville, here is another Family Cemetery, I am standing at the resting place of my Grandfather and Grandmother, Silas and Margaret Wood,  he was a Farmer and I grew up on his Farm !
.
.
Next we visited with my Great Grandfather and Great Grandmother, not far from his Son, Silas Wood.
.

. In the same Cemetery is my Great-Great Grandfather, Silas and Laura Wood.  Silas was a Civil War Veteran, enlisted 2 times and was discharged at age 44, he came home, was cutting trees and a tree fell and hit him in the head, killing him, he fought in some terrible battles in the south, survived 2 enlistments in the 60th Infantry Regiment of the New York State Vols, in Company B under Capt. Thomas..
.

.

.
These are his 2 discharge papers .
.

 .
There are many many relatives buried in Gates and Shawville Cemetery.  They contain both My Fathers family and also my Mothers Family, the Whitfords.
.

.
Most of these stones belong to my Family !!!

Gone Camping !

Well, we went over to the Storage Unit and grabbed onto our Aliner Camper, loaded her up and headed out for a few days of camping, we both felt good, so we left for the "Tug  Hill Plateau" !
We went up to the Sugar River area and spent some time, really nice, Hot during the day up to 80 and cool nights.
.
.
I am pleased I have lost 50 pounds and have been able to keep it off!!!!!
.
.
We hiked down to the Sugar River Falls in Talcottville, pretty good hike of about a mile but rough coming back UP !!!!
.
We found an old Cemetary, there were lots of old broken down stones, Civil War and Revolutionary War Stones, this is the first time I saw a repaired stone using pieces of aluminium and lag screws.  Pretty neat.
.

.
We wandered back of the Fence and this little filly came charging towards us and momma was right behind, Horse flies were terrible !!!!!
.

.
We went over to Whetstone Gulf and camped there for couple of days and it was nice.
.

.
My favorite part of camping is cooking, really like cooking over a wood fire !!!
.

.
Better than cooking is eating, fresh hot biscuits cooked in the fire, eggs, pork sausage, and NAVY COFFEE !!!!!!!!
.

.
After Breakfast time for a hiike as we both felt good, so off we went hiking the North Rim of "Whetstone Gulf" !!!
.
.
The picture above is the fresh gully dug out by spring run off from the Heavy rains we had for about 3 weeks !
.

.
Lots of foot bridges to get over areas of water and also walkways thru paths of Poison Ivy and Poison Oak.
.
We were blessed as we found a large area of "Jack-In-The-Pulpits",  Arisaema triphyllum (jack-in-the-pulpit, bog onion, brown dragon, Indian turnip, American wake robin, or wild turnip)  (12–26 in) in height with three-parted leaves and flowers contained in a spadix that is covered by a hood.  A preparation of the root is used as a treatment for sore eyes. Preparations can also be made to treat rheumatism, bronchitis, the Plant was at one time protected on the endangered list, we just checked them over and left them.
.
.
Above is the Purple Jack, the liquid in the cup is poison.
.

.
We sat around the wood fire and enjoyed ourselves and we ate good and it was quiet sleeping except we were awoken in middle of night by growls, screams and brush rattles.
.
.
Sitting around the Fire relaxing with morning Coffee !!!
.
.
Up early in morning and scouted out where the screaming and Growling and thrshing came from, looks like a Bear tangled with possible a Bobcat from the looks of things !
.
.
Supper was Aspragus cooked over the wood fire and cheeseburgers with a tossed salad, delicious.
.

.
I brought the "Dobro" and did several songs I am going to Play for Church Services on Sunday at the Nursing Home,  it was nice, very few people, and I learned a couple of new licks on the Dobro.I
.
.
Well, this is where we sat and Talked, Prayed, did some thinking and relaxing.   Headed home to plug back in and see whats going on in the world.

.
We would spent the weekend in the Kitchen preparing 3 meals a day for everyone, we started at 6AM and got done at about 8PM. We would then head back to the camper,
.
.
Anna Mae in the Doorway, it was Hot and Muggy and Thankful we have Air-Conditiong in the Camper.
.
,   I cooked, washed dishes and waited tables, Played Guitar for singing and Gospel Hour,  then we came back to camper just before dark.
.
We were up at Daylight for coffee and heading back to church.
.
 .
Camp Coffee at Day Break, Awesome !!.
.
The Moose River is a Beautiful Fishing River, has some nice Trout in it and we will be back here this summer to fish!!
.
.

We got out early Saturday and came back and had a nice Camp Fire and relaxed for an evening.
.

.
We enjoyed our get away and time away from the Apartment is important.
.
.
We enjoyed out time together and are ready to get back to camping and fishing !!
.
Don't Forget, Remember them, Memorial Day is coming upon us !

Monday, May 8, 2017

Well, It is now May 8th, and it is 37 degrees and SNOWING !!!!   We have been pretty much staying home, going to play and visit at the nursing homes and sneaking in some fishing,  It is trout season but not much biting due to high and fast and cold water.  However the Bullheads are biting!!!
.
.
Catching some nice smaller Bullheads, just right for cooking, the top one is a smaller white belly !!!!
.
.
They are either white bellies or yellow bellies depending where you fish, either one is great eating !! This is a Yellow Belly that runs a little bigger!
.
.
Cleaning is something you are taught at a very early age and after catching a side or back spine stuck in your hand you watch for them!!!!
.

.
These were delicious and came out perfect !!!!!
.
.
All that's left, a pile of Bones, I only ate 7 Bullheads, My Honey had 4.   Delicious.
.

.
My Newest purchase, A Morgan Stanley Dobro I am attempting to learn to Play !!!!

Saturday, April 22, 2017

Well, Spring is almost here, we have been cold, rainy, the creeks and streams are high with water from spring run off and water is cold, Bullheads just started biting, and the trout are still sluggish but  they are out there !!
.

1st trip out was on one of the few warm days,  this is the only fish caught for the day!!!!    We put him back to grow bigger !
.
.
Needed sweatshirts to stay warm, this old tree still hangs on from all the spring run offs that have eroded the roots.
.
Hopefully better weather is coming, today it is only up to 43 degrees right now !!!!
.
Don't forget our Vets.
